This was an appraisal well on the Edvard Grieg Field on the west side of the Utsira High where reservoirs comprise sandstones of Middle Jurassic (Hugin Formation) and Triassic age. The Edvard Grieg Field is a structural/stratigraphic trap with dip to the west and sand pinch-out or truncation to the east. Well 16/1-23 S proved a conglomeratic sandstone (possibly Triassic in age) with a 67 m oil column.
