Structural Setting and Petroleum Systems
8 March 2016

The central Haltenbanken area hosts several important gas/condensate and oil fields, including the Åsgard fields cluster and the Mikkel, Kristin, Tyrihans and Maria fields, with Middle and Lower Jurassic reservoirs, and also several oil discoveries in Cretaceous Lange and Lysing Formation sandstones. Water depths range from 200–400 m. This review article discusses the exploration history, the geological and structural setting and proven and prospective petroleum systems of this area, supported by a 3D PDF with regional mapping on the base Cretaceous, top Lower Cretaceous and top Cretaceous.
